Fukuoka Prefecture English Camp Returns to Huis Ten Bosch for Its Second Year

Sasebo, Nagasaki – For the second year in a row, GHJ International ran the Fukuoka Prefecture English Camp, a four-day program for junior high school students selected to compete in the prefecture’s English speech contest. The camp took place from August 17 to 20, 2026 at Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture.

Forty-two junior high students joined the camp, working with native-speaker and specially trained GHJ English coaches at a ratio of about six students per coach, so every participant received close personal attention throughout the four days. GHJ coaches also led exchange activities on the buses during the trip to and from the park.

The heart of the camp was speech contest coaching. Students refined their contest speeches with their coaches, working through GHJ’s own “Skills & Drills” curriculum: targeted exercises for pronunciation, intonation, gesture, and delivery that turn a memorized script into a confident performance.

Around the speech training, students rotated through GHJ’s signature activity menu led by GHJ leaders and coaches. In “Tomodachi Hunting” students hunted for new friends using only English. “Quiz Show” turned team competition into listening and quick-thinking practice. “Street English” and “Mission Field English” sent students out into the streets and plazas of Huis Ten Bosch itself, completing real communication missions with park visitors and staff in an authentic English environment.

The camp also featured Finite Fluency® sessions 1 through 5, part of GHJ’s next-generation English education program (ENG). Each student received one-on-one English conversation training, along with Word Puzzle® and Word Building® training that builds vocabulary and sentence construction skills through hands-on play.

Huis Ten Bosch, with its European streets, hotels, and stages, gave students the feeling of studying abroad without leaving Japan. Between sessions, students ate, played, and prepared for the speech contest entirely in English, and many arrived home more confident speakers than when they left.

GHJ International thanks the Fukuoka Prefecture Board of Education for its partnership, and the students, coaches, and staff who made this second annual camp a success. We look forward to welcoming the next group of speech contest participants in 2027. To learn about GHJ’s school-group English programs, see HTB English Adventures.
