Our mission

Bringing people together across the Pacific

Our mission is to promote international friendship and cooperation by bringing the people of Japan and English-speaking countries together, both in Japan and abroad.

We run a variety of programs in Japan and the United States, from teaching practicums and language camps to sports tours and music festivals.

History

More than four decades of exchange

  1. 1984

    The American Connection

    Guy & Yoko Healy moved to Yoko's hometown of Nagasaki, Japan to begin an agency promoting exchange programs between the United States and Japan, with the dream of bridging their respective home countries.

  2. 1992

    Guy Healy, Japan Ltd.

    Guy and Koichiro Kita formed a partnership and became a limited corporation in Japan named "Guy Healy, Japan Ltd."

  3. 2014

    GHJ International is born

    Guy Healy, Japan was split into two new companies: LbE Japan Corporation (Koichiro Kita) and GHJ International (Guy Healy).

  4. 2022

    A stock corporation

    GHJ was registered as a stock corporation with the Japanese government: GHJ International Kabushiki (Stock) Corporation.

Our partners

New divisions for a new generation

As Guy & Yoko have reached a quasi-retirement, we have developed new divisions to be operated by our partners in both Japan and the United States.

TEFL Teaching Practicum

  • Kenichiro KogaDesign Education

    The operation phase of the program in Munakata is being operated with the partnership of Kenichiro Koga, Design Education. Ken has a long history of working for Guy Healy, Japan and is passionate about English education exchange programs.

  • Jennifer GraffAttain Immersion

    The intern recruitment phase of the program is being conducted with the partnership of Jennifer Graff, Attain Immersion. As past International Programs Director for our partner university, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Jennifer has decades of experience in guiding students through study-abroad programs.

  • Sean SchraderGHJ Alumni Ambassador’s Club

    The GHJ Alumni Ambassador’s Club initiative continues to be headed by former intern, Sean Schrader. Sean joined the TEFL program in Fall 2024 and went on to represent Clearwater, Florida, as a USA Youth Ambassador at the World Expo in Osaka. He now leads alumni outreach to recruit the next generation of interns. Read his story in the GHJ blog

HTB English Adventures

  • Mari Hawkins & Miho YamamotoHuis Ten Bosch Theme Park

    The HTB English Adventures team at Huis Ten Bosch Theme Park is headed up by Mari Hawkins and Miho Yamamoto. Mari and Miho were key members of the Tomodachi Factory English Program founded by our close friend and colleague, Jiro Katsura, founder of Gyroscorpe. Jiro passed away in 2025 and the HTB English Adventures program was implemented in partnership with the Huis Ten Bosch theme park to honor his memory and dedication to international exchange programs.

ENG: English for the Next Generation

  • Zack BergeronDejimagination

    Zack works with Guy on ENG program implementation and teacher training. He has been part of the ENG project for nearly two decades, from award-winning camp counselor (2009) and camp director (2015-16) to Program Director of the GHJ Munakata City Program from 2019 to 2024. Holding TESOL degrees from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and the University of Arizona, he has taught English at university level in the U.S. and China.
